Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah has reportedly decided against taking part in next month’s African Cup of Nations in Gabon as continues his return to football following a long-term knee injury.
The 28-year-old got injured in a Serie A game against Palermo in late September and now that he has returned wants to cement his place in the Juventus team.
Although the squad has not been chosen yet, the player has reportedly already had discussions with Black Stars coach Avram Grant about his unavailability for the tournament that kicks off on 14 January.
Asamoah has fears that playing for the Ghana could cause his injury to resurface, which could see him lose a permanent place in the Juventus team.
Ghana have been drawn to play against Egypt, Uganda and Mali at the 2017 Afcon.
